Been a crazy couple years, but I found my way back here. Been using my free time at the forge, leather projects, and archery. Getting pretty good at matching my arrows and hitting what I aim at, my son is getting better than me slowly.
I was introduced to a new cold remedy by an older Native American gentleman, called bear root. Works better than anything I have used in the past so far and should be in found over where FOTH hangs out.
I harvest it on mt nebo around 10,000 feet. Take a piece the size of your last section of your thumb, pound it and make tea. Drink 3 times a day and so far not had to go into a secoond day using it.
Just thought I would share this one because it works so well for me and my family.

Thanks for that heads up, mmunds, and welcome back. Do you have any more identifying info on the bear root, pics, scientific name, whatever? Did your Native American friend show it to you? FOTH and many others of us live where this might be found, if we know what to look for. Sounds like good stuff.

Welcome back, Mark! Sounds like some good work you've been doing with the forge, archery and everything. Thanks for letting us know about the bear root. Is this the same thing as osha ( Ligusticum porter)? It does grow here where I live, but I've never used it. Thanks again for the information!

FOTH, that the one, pull one up and break a root and smell, very pungent even when dried. Stinks up my whole medicine cabnet :-) Has an anti viral and anti biotic properties from what I was told. I drank it once to test it, haven't had a cold yet but my wife, daugher, and son all have and will redily use it even though it tastes like cr.. Last time I made the wife's with lemon, honey, and a half shot of rum. Still worked as well as first time just plain and she slept better.

Forgot to mention, the one time I used it was because I was feeling a tickle start in my nose and was feeling like I might be getting a cold MAYBE, One dose and it went away. So not really sure if i was getting sick from the wife or not. Needed to try it so I knew what I was feeding the family anyway.

Yup, we have it here in the White Mountains, too. Locals call it chuchupate. I'll have to try it if we get a cold.
