It's time for Einar and Liz to get serious about choosing a name for the little one. If anyone has ideas please post them in this thread, along with a reason for the choice, and perhaps in a week or so we'll do a poll. Or Einar may just end up using "Hildegard" or "Snorri!"

Well, if they are thinking along the lines of Einar's ancestry, I always liked the name Haakon for a boy. Then I thought I'd look it up and found a little different spelling and learned that means "high son". Boy, that sounds appropriate! Runi is also a good name for a boy or a girl (meaning secret lore which also goes well with the couple's life). One of the sweetest little girls I know is named Freya, another pretty Norse name....wonder if Liz would like that one? While I was at it I figured I'd look up the meaning of Einar's name -- and it is very apt for the critter!

Saoirse for a girl, it is Gaelic for freedom Liberty for a girl, cause it means freedom
Avidror for a boy, it is Hebrew for Father of Freedom

as a long lost Uncle of Einar's, I would name the girl child Denice, and if a boy, De-nephew...
OK, no drum roll...
Bud for the boy
Susan for the girl, both names are principal to the parents of this child, though, I really love Einar's name for the boy....
philip... who was once called "late for dinner" but he did not like missing the meal.

In keeping with the Norse roots; the child would be, if a boy, [Einarsson] with a given name cast for by the runes. As native american first names often are given, the first thing the mother or father notices. [Permanant names are given during the vision quest.]
If a girl, she would be Einarsdatter, with a first name again cast for by the runes.
First or given names most always honor a relative of great courage, strength or wisdom; and the runes often comply.

OOps. I saw a post in Mountain Refuge about naming the little one, and put this in a reply there. Then I saw this thread. Sorry. "As for a name, I suggest they name him after Liz's or EA's Dad or Grandad; Or name her after one of their Mothers or Grandmothers. Given their circumstances and likely future, it would be good to do all they can to give the young 'un a sense of belonging to a heritage, a family lineage. It would also, if in the future the young 'un is left an orphan, serve to help identify his relatives, and let them know he is their kin, who might take him in and care for him."

Norse tradition calls for the baby to be named after a family member. That would mean Uncle Snorri would be in the running... GIRL Eira- (EYE rah) from the Norse Goddess Eir, the Goddess of medicine and healing. By Norse tradition, only women practiced the healing arts. or after Liz's best friend- Susan BOY Einar Jr. or What was Einar's friend's name that died on the mountain top? He found his bones and back pack.

Thank you all for your suggestions! Not that Einar and Liz would necessarily name their child based on the results of a poll...but we're going to do one, anyway, with the suggestions gathered so far. Everyone can make two selections on the poll, one for a male name and one for a female. If you have other ideas, please feel free to add them to this thread. Thanks.

Aw, nobody at all likes Snorri or Hildegard? Einar will be so disappointed... Some good ideas here.

Einar needs to heal both emotionally and mentally from his imagined betrayal of Andy.
Name the child Andrew, if a boy, and Andrea, if a girl. Either way, it would be called Andy and Einar can recover by watching over, teaching, saving and guiding the growth of his new charge.
