Welcome to Freedom of the Hills, home of Einar's Saga and Wilderness Survival Discussion
The purpose of this forum is to promote knowledge, education and training in various wilderness survival and primitive living skills and the mindset required to live as free men and women under conditions that may require their use--the ultimate in "self sufficiency"--and to hopefully encourage each of us to spend more time out there improving and working to further master our own skills.
Unlike physical possessions and preparations, skills, experience and hands-on knowledge can never be taken from us, and will always be there when we need them. They can only be gained and maintained through study, hard work and a lot of time spent in the dirt training and practicing, which is one of the best investments any of us can make for ourselves and those who may depend on us. The only things you really “own,” when it comes to a real-world survival situation, are the ones etched into your brain because you’ve spent so many hours practicing and mastering them.
While the "Einar" stories are a main focus of this forum, their fictional format is merely a vehicle to carry the information and to get people thinking, wondering, and hopefully putting in the time required to acquire some of these skills for themselves! The stories are only fictional in format; the skill sets detailed in them are fact, and I can back them up. Any information I cover in detail is backed by experience (often with photos posted to demonstrate) and is put out there with the intention that it serve as a basis for the readers to go out and begin acquiring these skills for themselves. A starting point, not an end in and of itself.
I hope all of you will make yourselves at home here, and feel free to read and comment (or not!) on the stories and skills sections as you see fit.
Thanks,
FOTH
For new members who wish to post introductions, I would ask that each of you start a separate thread here in the "introductions" section, for that purpose.
