Having a few general topic categories, maybe only five or six. ie. gardening, cooking, hunting, and so on, a little organization. Maybe ask for suggestions and take the top six. Help to keep things from being lumped together.

Good suggestion, ref100.
I'd personally like to see a "gear" subforum, or something like it. They always seem to generate a good bit of ideas and inspiration.
One particular topic I'd really love to see from FOTH is a "Einar's gear" topic...Gear that Einar carries or would carry if he could, (and wouldn't lose all the time! ;D ) and the reasoning behind the choices. These would be "commercially available" products or things that he hasn't made himself out of natural materials. Would Einar choose to carry stainless steel Nalgene-type bottles if he could, for their ability to carry water but also to boil/treat water and cook in? A Tarp? Fishhooks or fishing line? What about certain tools? (and so on...) I think that would be really interesting.

I also have a suggestion. something I am fond of....plant ID. I know a lot of plants here in Illinois but am still interested in other parts of the states. I am particularly interested in wild edible plants.

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions--I will be creating a few additional categories/subforums over the next few days to help keep things organized and give all of us more room for discussion.

I second the plant ID idea - seems there is a lot of knowledge shared in the story and I'd love to learn more about it...maybe put up a snapshot or two from time to time to help me decide what I'm looking at (especially at different times of the year). Seems the same type of plant can look vastly different depending on locale, elevation, time of year....among other things!
