Hi everyone, ok. Just a short post. I have concerns about the Ebola virus. They recently flew the first 2 Americans back to the states, that are infected with the virus. The reports sound like they are in a hospital that is well staffed and trained for isolation circumstances as this. Unfortunately, I am of a culture that does not put much faith in the American media. (perhaps it is a blessing) www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/08/01/ebola-liberia-american-patient-emory/13453997/I have studied the virus. I know how it is spread, symptoms, and treatment. I am now asking for opinions here or feelings or whatever your inner self is telling you about this latest action. Any and all responses hold value to me. Thank you all of you for being here and being educated, and prepared. 2medicine woman

My thoughts: Ebola has been around since at least 1976, in human populations. Since that time there have been occasional outbreaks which kill hundreds in affected population pockets before tapering out. This is one of those outbreaks.
The virus, though, is largely self-limiting. I don't believe in its present form that it has the potential be the worldwide pandemic/plague that people fear.
In the '80s, the Soviets attempted to weaponize Ebola for use in biological warfare, without much success at all because it is simply not that easy to spread.
Unless I'm looking at sharing very close quarters with people who have recently visited affected areas, or working in a medical capacity to tend to/treat those affected, I am not, personally, going to worry about contracting this virus.
I do, however, believe that our government may choose to use this current scare to test procedures which they hope to use in the future to consolidate control, here at home...because they never let a good scare go to waste.

Thank you for a response Chris. I rarely post any more about my own questions or concerns. The general populace usually responds in rather LIB. mindsets. (ostriches)
I just read now that they have given the 2 Americans an experimental serum. I am praying it will work for these people. Being raised by a nurse, has me questioning everything in the medical arenas. I am not one to panic and go into hiding because of news reports. I enjoy good discussions with others and I have found that preppers and some survivalists are more that willing to share their thoughts.
As of this time, I am keeping an eye on the situation. I check some blogs and a couple news sources that have proven to be quite reliable. I also keep in mind the many contaminants that have been introduced into our food chains. Been an increase in recalls lately. Seems it is too easy to contaminate food production. I am fortunate that I am not full blood. I have more resistance that most full bloods do. I cannot speak for all native peoples. In Lakota, our bodies are not meant to be eating many of today's foods. We were meat, fish and some carbohydrates from fruits..diets. Processed flours, sugars, meats, cheese is difficult for our bodies to break down.
Anyway, I digress. Thank you for your thoughts/opinions on this issue.
**My keyboard hates me. It keeps making grammar errors.** so sorry.

2Medicine Woman, By Choice, I live in a rural of Oregon, but I do go into the ~City~ (Eugene) regularly... I was in the Vet Center, yesterday, and one of their former interns came in to visit. She had just come out of a thirty day ~self quarantine~, due to having just returned (30 days prior) from Uganda. She spoke openly to those of us there, of how it is being dealt with, there, and the Precautions being discussed with travelers to there. She was with a group, completing a Master's degree Internship Program there... and so was closer to medical type personnel than most would be. After hearing her, I have much less concerns, than I did before... and with the newest ebola patient coming in tomorrow ( ) I think that the USA is better equipped to handle the issues, than what we might garner from MSMedia... or dotGOV. However, being one of them, that served in VietNam, Republic of... I also discount what I hear ... as you spoke of... philip, of BoonDocks Oregon

Hi Philip - - Thank you for your post. Also, thank you for your time in the jungle. I love Oregon, very beautiful. Drove through a couple times. I even stopped for the night so I could be with the ocean. Minnesota has water all over that place but not ocean.
As I mentioned, I make it a daily practice to keep an eye on the news and world happenings. I am wishing more people would. I don't like to waste my brain of "Survivor, Dancing With Stars" or whatever boring drivel is the latest rage.
Thank you for sharing your encounter with the intern. Always good to get the facts from the horse's mouth.
Also, welcome to Chris' proboard. Good stories and opinionated people. (me) LOL

Meen E Sota??? I have been there!!!!
spent Six weeks in the Red Lake area, during the Frozen Tundra of January!!!! Err... 1998!!!!
loved seeing the Head Waters of the Mississippi... Bemidji, but that was long ago....now a days, a scary journey is into Eugene, or, as I call it Bleu Jean' we have every kind of two legged critter walking around there.... And sometimes not even walking, there are multiple Bike making shops, including a ~bike~ Built for eight people, all pedaling at the same time, with a sort of organization.... If they can concur, all together, that they are ~in~ The same Universe, concurrently!!!!!
philip,
in the BoonDocks of Oregon.... Life is quiet...
