I sprained my ankle. anything in particular good for helping the darn thing heal back up?

poultice of comfrey; ointment of elder leaf; horsetail bath; mallow poultice; St. Johns oil

Our family from the mountains of Kentucky, used a brown paper bag soaked in kerosine for bad sprains. Wrap the ankle for 12 hrs, the next day swelling is gone and and pain is managable. BTW kerosine was called coal oil back then.
